- Two Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and three ED glass elements minimise both longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberration for exceptionally sharp imagery without colour bleeding. Contrast and clarity are further enhanced by Nano AR Coating II that effectively suppresses flare and ghosting even when a strong light source appears in the frame.

- Four precision XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors drive the focus group for fast, accurate, quiet focusing that maximises the AF performance potential of modern camera bodies. Tracking easily keeps up with the 120 fps*3 maximum burst speed of the α9 III and is consistently reliable even while zooming. Perfect for professionals who must get the shot.

Exquisite bokeh makes subjects stand out
- A number of innovations contribute to outstanding resolution and bokeh, including a new 11-blade circular aperture and two precision XA (extreme aspherical) lens elements that effectively suppress onion-ring bokeh. Bokeh is unusually smooth and creamy for a zoom lens. Telephoto compression and shallow depth of field contribute to memorable images.

- With a maximum magnification of 0.2x and minimum focus distances of 0.4 m (1.32 ft) at wide and 0.74 m (2.43 in) at telephoto, close-up performance is superb. This lightweight 50-150 mm zoom can be used handheld to shoot small items at weddings without having to change lenses, for example. Floating focus ensures excellent sharpness.

- The latest lens technology minimises focus breathing for refined movie imagery. Rack focus and zoom effects can be used with F2 depth of field to create natural transitions that smoothly guide the viewer’s eye. Critical focus for high in rate 4K 120p/FHD 240p*4 recording is easy, and the entire system operates with minimal noise and vibration.

Smooth operation for movie capture
- Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. An internal zoom mechanism minimises centre of gravity shift so gimbal mounting is easy, and the breathing compensation*5 and Active Mode image stabilization functions provided in compatible α bodies are supported.

- Operability is enhanced by an aperture ring with click ON/OFF and lock switches, three assignable focus hold buttons, and a DMF switch that enables temporary switchover to manual focus while using AF. Ample clearance is provided for the camera grip. The lens accepts standard 95 mm filters, and the tripod foot has 1/4” and 3/8” screw holes.

- Buttons and switches sealed with silicone gaskets, a rubber ring that seals the lens mount, an internal zoom mechanism, and other measures prevent the incursion of dust and moisture even in challenging outdoor conditions*6. The front element features a fluorine coating that repels contaminants and makes the lens easier to clean.
