A white mist filter does much the same as a black mist filter - diffuses highlights, softens contrast and detail and adds atmosphere. There are however two key differences -
- Black Mist filters add a warm tint to the halation around highlights, whereas white mist does not affect the colour.
- Black mist is much more subtle - its the kind of filter you can leave on your lens permanently. White mist has an extremely strong effect and is clearly noticeable on images.
White mist is typically used to create a dreamy high-key feel in images and especially to soften blemishes and wrinkles on skin.
Both have their place for creative photographers and filmmakers, but Black Mist is an everyday filter, whereas white mist is a specialty filter.
Individual Filters - The Ultimate Jetmag Pro Setup
You can purchase individual Jetmag components to upgrade your kit to the optimal setup. In order to never screw or unscrew a filter or adapter ring again, you need -
- A Jetmag adapter ring on each lens - your kit should cover most of your needs with the included rings, but if e.g. you have more than one 82mm or 77mm lens, then you'll need another ring of that size.
- A protective Jetmag NC UV filter for each lens to protect it when not using a creative filter.
- A Jetmag front cap for each lens. All kits include two front caps, so most people will only need 1 or 2 extra.
This will allow you to leave the adapter ring, UV filter and front cap on each lens permanently. When you want to use a creative filter, you just put the UV and front cap in the filter stack and when you're done, you put it back.
