The Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens features faster autofocus, better optical quality, and better vibration compensation (IS/VR) than its predecessor. The lens achieves these feats by utilising a new optical construction with XLD and LD elements, a new Ultrasonic Silent Drive ring-type autofocus motor with two high-performance microcomputers, and a new VC image stabilization system with performance rated at 5-stops.
Special lens elements and coatings
The second generation Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 features a wide array of special lens elements and coatings to provide stunning image quality.
One XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and five LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements helps to greatly reduce the appearance of axial and transverse chromatic aberrations.
Anti-reflection coatings includes a eBAND (Extended Bandwidth and Angular-Dependency) coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating. These coatings improves light transmission and suppresses internal reflections to reduce ghosting and flares.
5 stops Vibration Compensation (VC) with 3 modes
The Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Gen2 lens features a super-handy vibration reduction system called VC. The vibration compensation system is rated up to 5 stops and will make low/dim light shooting and panning a lot easier as you can still get sharp results from shooting at much slower shutter speeds that you would have with a non IS/VR/VC lens.
Adding to the VC system's versatility is 3 switchable modes made for different shooting needs:
The standard mode, VC mode 1, uses conventional algorithms for a great balance between the stability of the viewfinder image and the stabilization effects.
VC mode 2 changes the compensation to suit panning.
VC mode 3 prioritizes the stabilisation of the captured images and forgoes the stabilisation of the viewfinder image.
Fast AF from an improved USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor
The Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Generation 2 lens features an improved ring-type USD autofocus motor with two high-performance microcomputers. This motor provides accurate autofocus that is super-quick and near silent
Short minimum focus distance of 95cm
The Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens features a shorter minimum focus than its predecessor. The Gen 2 can focus as close as 95cm, while the first gen could only focus as close as 130cm. The close focusing distance, telephoto focal lengths, and background compression will make the lens suitable for portraits and close-ups.
9 circular diaphragm aperture blades for pleasant bokeh
The lens features 9 circular aperture blades to provide smooth and pleasant bokeh for increased background compression, helping to emphasise your subject.
Dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprint resistant construction
The second generation Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 features a sealed construction with a fluorine compound to protect the lens form various elements while keeping it easy to clean. A rubber seal around the lens-mount keeps dust and moisture from getting into the camera, and a fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellent makes the lens easier to wipe clean makes it is less vulnerable to the damages from dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.
Removable Arca-Swiss dovetail type tripod lens foot
The Tamron 70-200mm G2 lens features a removable tripod lens foot. The lens foot features an arca-swiss dovetail type bottom, making it possible to a use it on almost any tripod head including gimbal and video.
Compatible with two new teleconverters
The Tamron SP 70-200mm G2 telephoto lens is compatible with two new teleconverters, one 1.4X, and one 2X, adding to the G2's already spectacular versatility. The teleconverters are both moisture and dust-resistant, and turn the 70-200mm into a 98-280mm or 140-400mm equivalent zoom on 35mm full-frame.
Tap-in console compatible
With the optional TAP-in Console you can connect your lens to a pc via USB connection. Once connected you can effortlessly update your lens’s firmware as well as fine-tune the autofocus and vibration compensation.
